Analyzing Postcards-Shay Hemp, Guy Holliday, Grace Iniguez

The font and picture of the bed are like picture perfect. The bed is nicely made up and the font flows and is pretty. We believe that the background of the postcard is white and boring because it may represent the fact that the person writing this postcard has hurt feelings. And also it may represent how the person receiving this postcard has no feelings and does not appreciate anything. White can come off as a negative color, because it is nothing, no excitement or anything.

The font looks as if it would come from a hotel, something a maid may bring to your room with "call if you need service." This could represent the fact that this person feels they do work and do not get appreciation, because maids probably tend to feel that way also.

This postcard represents a woman who is unhappy with her body. She portrays herself as pregnant, but she isn't, she just fits into the clothes. The reason she may have put the picture of a naked pregnant woman is because pregnancy is supposed to be a beautiful thing. This picture shows a woman who is large and would fit into maternity clothes, but is still beautiful. We feel the person making this card sees that she is large and fits into maternity clothes, but is not beautiful.

The big black labels going across the picture could represent her trying to cover up her secret. The picture is a portrayal of what people probably think she is, and the writing is covering up a big portion of the picture with the truth.

The black and gray tones of the postcard represents a darkness. She sounds unhappy, and the colors match perfectly with that feeling, because black and dark grays are depressing colors.

This postcard we feel is meant to be a little bit humorous. This gives us that feeling that this person does not like going to the parties and tries to amuse themselves with being creative about how to kill himself because they are so bored.

The postcard is the view that the person writing it sees. In the picture, there is nobody that you see in a corner alone, so we assume that the person is the one taking the picture. All the things in the picture are the things that they are thinking of how to use to kill themselves.

The picture is slightly faded, giving us the idea of how boring, and unlively the party is. The black font is plain, small and boring, just like the party.
It looks as if the party could be a family gathering where a young girl or boy hates going to, or maybe a grownup who is going to the party to be social, but really doesn't like any of these people.

Shay, Guy and Grace,

I like the way you observe the details in the postcards. You are right that the bed and the font are both "picture perfect." But to me, the author of the postcard seems to be contemptuous and scornful. The author seems to be saying that the guest has no sense of discrimination, and cannot tell the difference between a clean/fresh bed and a "pretty" bed.

I agree that the ethos of the pregnancy postcard conveys shame and self-hatred, and that the black-and-white shades support the feeling of depression that comes from the text. Why did the author choose to illustrate this card using a picture from a biology or anatomy textbook instead of a photograph of a pregnant woman?

You've done a nice job of explaining the faded, blah quality of the images in the "party" postcard.
